From Policy to Pavement: “Advocating for Safer Transportation Options in Your Community”

Transportation is the preliminary requirement for any Nation. Transportation is a major part of evolution; transportation has been evolving continuously. Our ancestors first walked, then used cattle for their mobility and slowly it changed and changed. Now here we are with the most luxurious of vehicles from smart cycles to extravagant cars and buses.

As transportation progressed, it brought challenges that needed to be met. Everybody from an infant to the elderly uses some sort of vehicle. An infant uses a perambulator (though it’s a passive mode of transport, it does contribute to the vehicles on the road). Number of vehicles has become insurmountable.

Challenges of Transportation system:

The first and foremost challenge faced due to transportation is the safety of the travellers. It is an urgent thing to be dwelt upon. Transportation can never be avoided, so we need to formulate things that prioritise road safety.

Safety not only begins by making strict rules for the riders, it should include strict infrastructural policies. As a community, we all need to look into the conditions of the roads, and tracks etc., We must make sure that the infrastructure on which our transportation relies has to be maintained properly. Though the transportation infrastructure needs the government’s concentration to a larger extent, as civilians we need to strictly maintain the infrastructure carefully and properly.

Economies are more dependent on transportation. Transportation has to be reliant and sustainable for our economies to be sustainable.

What are the safer options for commutation?

Though transportation is inevitable, its usage could be a bit reduced. Anything becomes hazardous upon over-exploitation. The same is the case with the transportation system. The number of vehicles has to be reduced to avoid traffic jams, which is a major threat to the transport system.

People need to adapt to walking whenever possible. Walking makes our physique as well as roads healthier. Walking to a significant extent, reduces the number of vehicles on the road. While travelling by cycle or two-wheeler safety measures like helmets should worn without fail. In cars and all other closed vehicles, fastening the seat belts should become a habit. All of us should become self-conscious and responsible. We need to avoid travelling without proper training and with people who lack proper driving papers. Adapting public transport also avoids traffic congestion. Erol Rozen rightly says” You can’t understand a city without using its public transportation system”. The public transportation system is an Eco friendly and a reliable option.

Role of Vehicles in Safe Transportation:

Though we have discussed the infrastructure on which transportation is reliant and those who travel by vehicle, we need to address the vehicles themselves. Safety depends upon roads, people and mainly the vehicles. The vehicles have to be properly driven and properly maintained. The vehicles need to be serviced regularly, which can avoid unnecessary untoward events that can happen because of spoilt vehicles.

Conclusion:

Safe transportation leads to a happy and hassle-free future is the mott of Cape of Good Hope.
