BUILDING BRIDGES: CONNECTING SCHOOLS, PARENTS, AND COMMUNITIES FOR SAFE MOBILITY
Safe Transportation – Now a Challenge:
Transportation has now become a big word and a cause of concern. In the earlier days, people used to walk more, and vehicles were few, hence safety in transportation was never an issue. But now everybody uses some sort of vehicle, a cycle is used by children for commuting to school, tuition and other co-curricular classes, and adults to be fit.
Bikes are used by men and women for their routine commutations, and vehicles like cars, buses, and vans for professional as well as personal transportation. Once a luxury, has now become a necessity.
Every problem needs a solution and the solution has to come from all of us, we all need to come together and initiate a holistic response towards safe transportation.
Need of the hour – “COMING TOGETHER”
Life now is hectic allowing no connection between each other. We have to bridge that gap, to bring some changes concerning safe commutations. We come across many untoward incidents, due to a lack of awareness of road safety. The schools should bring up some initiatives that could help the students, parents and local people to come together and learn. The students are the future’s citizens. As always said “As you sow, so you shall reap” – a right thought sown in the student’s mind will make the future commutation safer.
The right thought to be taught:
The right thoughts can be taught through road safety campaigns, workshops, and awareness programs. The schools can take the help of students and their parents to devise some creative posters, hoardings, and awareness pamphlets that can be distributed among the local people and can be shared on social media.
Road safety can be taught to people through awareness skits and stand-up comedy shows that have a wider reach these days. The teachers, students and parents can come together and create a game or an app that could easily teach road safety concepts.
Rule begins at School:
School zones are usually congested in the morning hours and early evening hours. The students of the respective schools should be made to learn and follow the traffic rules strictly during these hours.
The importance of public transportation and walking needs to be emphasized. The schools should encourage the students and their parents to adopt walking to school, as the first step towards road safety. Adopting public transportation can largely contribute to a reduction in traffic congestion and chaos.
Socialization – Influence on Transport
This decade is socially overactive. Kids, adults and the elderly travel around various places. The number of vehicles has also increased accordingly, and traffic congestion has become a routine in everyone’s life. So, people’s safety is to be prioritized. Road safety drives are to be conducted routinely wherever and whenever possible by the schools, and the local community people.
Conclusion:
Coming together with effective road safety initiatives will empower individuals to commute safely. Communication about the commutation is the key to safe mobility. We at Cape of Good Hope want our future generations to be aware of their environment and their safety as it is the foremost aspect of a healthy living
