Journey Through History: The Educational Significance of Field Trips to Historical Sites

History – A Treasure Hunt

History is a tough, yet important part of our learning. History is proof of our identity, culture and geographical backgrounds. We learn a lot from the past events and our ancestors. “Old is gold” is a powerful quote. Most of the inventions are a part of history. What we do now is just discovery, rarely there are inventions too.

Only when we delve into the past, we have a clue as to what we can discover. History is a treasure, which has to be hunted properly with appropriate guidance. We can find gems as valuable as diamonds and deadly events that might threaten us to the core. The diamonds will help us grow, and the negative traces will help us not to fall and fail.

Schools Play a Massive Role in Teaching History:

School is the place where we start learning. That’s where history is introduced as a subject. It is an unwelcome subject. Students feel that learning about the past has no relevance in the present. Little that they realize that history has got answers for everything in their future.

Making History Interesting:

To make history interesting, Schools have to take the students to historical places on field trips. Such trips will encourage the children to create interest in the subject. A visual depiction of anything has a larger impact on the children. Movies are the best example of the benefits of visual depiction. When we see any movie, we easily connect with the place and people associated. When the students are taken to historical sites, they will start learning about the place and important events associated with it.

Magic of the Historical Sites:

These places will first kindle a sense of belonging in those who visit. The students will connect themselves, with the people who belonged to those times. They will learn about the hardships faced by people of those times. They will learn the beauties of living with nature. Though luxuries were present in every era, our previous times had fewer artificial things. Our ancestors were always one with nature.

Through visiting such places, students will get to know the architectural marvels of the buildings and the talents of the then architects. With the least resources, they were able to construct marvels! This will in turn show the importance of creativity.
Students will also learn the fact that “Nothing Comes Easy”. Our ancient times have seen more wars for even the basic amenities that we enjoy nowadays. Students will learn to know what contentment is. They will know the realities of life, and come out of the social media phantoms and fantasies.

Conclusion:

The journey through history is a beautiful experience and exposure, a school can award its students. The students will be mature, confident and most importantly self–reliant. The historical sites are nothing but historical achievements, that have a beautiful and saddening story behind them. This is the essence that Cape of Good Hope wants to instill in the Younger India of today and tomorrow
